How do I clean my M-001 mouse?Updated 16 hours ago

A clean mouse tracks better, feels better, and lasts longer. Five minutes of care every couple of weeks is all it takes. This guide covers the mouse body; for the sensor, see "How do I clean my mouse sensor?"

What you'll need

• A clean microfiber cloth (the same kind you use on the pad)
• Isopropyl alcohol (70%+) or mild soap + water on the cloth
• A cotton swab (Q-tip) for crevices
• A toothpick or soft brush for the scroll wheel

Note: isopropyl alcohol is fine on the mouse body but must not be used on the glass mousepad - different surfaces, different rules.

Step 1: Power down

Unplug the receiver or turn the mouse off. You don't want phantom clicks or scroll inputs while you clean.

Step 2: Wipe the shell

Lightly dampen a microfiber with isopropyl or mild soap-water. Wipe the entire shell, paying attention to:

• Click buttons (top surface)
• Side grips where your fingers rest
• The scroll wheel rim
• The bottom around the skates

Don't soak the cloth. A damp microfiber is enough; dripping liquid can seep into seams.

Step 3: Clean the seams and buttons

Use a cotton swab dampened (not soaked) with isopropyl to get into the gaps around the click buttons, side buttons, and the rim of the scroll wheel. This is where finger oils build up and cause buttons to feel sticky.

Step 4: Scroll wheel

The scroll wheel is the dirtiest part of most mice. Hold the wheel still, then use a toothpick or soft brush to lift hair, lint, or dust from the gaps. Rotate the wheel a quarter-turn at a time and repeat.

Step 5: Battery contacts (during a swap)

The M-001 uses a hot-swap battery system, so the next time you swap batteries, take ten seconds to wipe the contacts:

• Inside the mouse battery slot - a dry cotton swab is enough
• On the battery itself - same dry swab; don't use liquid here
• In the receiver's charging dock - dry swab to clear any dust

Clean contacts mean reliable charging and a clean swap every time. Don't use isopropyl on the contacts; a dry swab is safer.

Step 6: Dry fully before powering on

Let the mouse air-dry for 2-3 minutes. Even a tiny amount of residual moisture in a seam can cause issues. There's no charging port on the mouse itself, so you don't need to worry about port-side drying.

How often

• Quick wipe: weekly
• Full clean (with cotton swabs, scroll wheel): every 2-4 weeks
• Deep clean (with skate removal): when you replace skates

What to avoid

• Acetone, paint thinner, or any harsh solvent: can dull or crack the shell finish
• Compressed air aimed directly into the buttons (can push debris deeper)
• Submerging the mouse - it's not waterproof
• Cleaning while the mouse is plugged in
